Teavana store managers visit Shizuoka to study Japanese tea

On May 17th, Chunichi Shimbun, a regional newspaper, reported that 27 store managers from Starbucks group company Teavana visited Shizuoka to learn more about Japanese tea. On May 15th, they visited a tea factory, and at farmer Shinichi Miyazaki’s field in Fujieda city, they experienced tea picking by hand, and ate tea leaf tempura.

The tea picking occurred at a field that was shaded by straw in order to create gyokuro tea. Miyazaki-san explained that he helps a rice farmer with his cultivation in order to get the straw needed for the shading.

The article also explained that the managers experienced tea ceremony in Kyoto on May 14th.
