According to Kyoto Prefecture, in 2013, 1164 tons of tencha (the unrolled dried tea leaf form used to grind matcha powder) was produced on 455 hectares at farms dedicated to tencha. Because a few farms use the fields for tencha in the spring then switch to processing 2nd flush (nibancha) sencha, bancha, hojicha, etc. later in the year, the breakdown looks more like this:

First flush tencha: 489.6 hectares
Second flush tencha: 473.7 hectares
Autumn flush tencha: 337.9 hectares

Raw leaf amount: 6,066,477 kilograms
Processed tencha leaf (tencha) amount: 1,163,609 kilograms
Total commodity value: 3661.1 million yen (36.6 million USD at 100 yen per dollar)
Factories: 85 total. 65 individually owned, 19 coop factories, 1 factory managed by Japan Agriculture.
